About the role
We’re looking for a Procurement Manager – Materials within the Marine Sector to join us at HMNB Devonport, one of the largest naval bases in Western Europe. We’re a key strategic partner to our customers; the MOD and the Royal Navy. We ensure that the UK Royal Navy goes to sea safely by supporting them in Devonport and around the world, delivering complex ship and submarine sustainment programmes and applying our core strengths of technology and expertise to sustain critical and complex assets to help maintain national security.
This role is within the Marine Sector of Babcock International Group. The Marine Sector delivers a wide array of complex through-life marine engineering services. Ranging from UK and international naval fleet support, commercial marine, engineering consultancy, weapons handling, equipment support, intelligence, cyber security and training delivered through unique owned and managed infrastructure to defence and civil customers across the globe.
As the Procurement Manager you will managing a team of buyers across up to three Shared Service Centres involved in material purchasing, supplier management, KPI management etc. You will optimise P&SC processes to ensure they are effective and efficient and build and maintain business and supplier relationships
What do I need to be able to do the role?
As the Procurement Manager you will be in a professional purchasing post requiring considerable purchasing experience and proven delivery
Experience of managing a team of Buyers
Experience of materials procurement
HNC or equivalent level in ideally a Purchasing, Business-related, Engineering / Technical subject
Ideally be MCIPS or working toward CIPS accreditation.
Lastly this will suit a candidate who is seeking a career within a central commodity based procurement environment and whom enjoys optimising and driving efficiency.
What else do I need to know?
The successful candidate will need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements. This may require you to hold or be eligible/capable of achieving ‘Security Check’ (SC) clearance. We are happy to talk about flexible working. Please ask about alternative patterns of work at interview.
